On Tuesday, we headed out to Philippi Children’s Center. Our professor, Stuart, works with an organization called SASDI: Southern Africa Sustainable Development Initiative. SASDI helps with servicing different communities around Cape Town, South Africa. Today we helped build a new section at the children’s center. When we first arrived, we gathered together to listen for instructions and to form groups and group leader. I was a part of the girls’ group. Our responsibility was to paint. After tea time and getting all our painting gear, we finally started painting. We painted the inside of one building and the outside of another building. During our breaks, we got a chance to play with the children of the center. The Philippi Children’s Center has about 200 children that attend. Before the construction started, one would wonder how 200 children could even fit. Now they will have more than enough space for the children to learn and play.
